Michael Keaton makes, hands down, the wildest entrance on Johnny Carson’s ‘The Tonight Show’

Michael Keaton makes his first appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.’ And he makes it one to remember.

Johnny introduces him, and the band starts playing. To everyone’s surprise, Michael Keaton comes out into the studio, walking on his hands! Ed McMahon is heard saying, ‘Now that’s a first!’

Johnny tells Keaton that in 22 years of doing the show, no one has ever done an entrance like that! The interview proceeds with a talk about Keaton’s family, and he tells Johnny that he is the youngest of 7 children.

Johnny empathizes with him and says, ‘That’s tough. By then, your parents are over the whole thing!’ The audience loves the back-and-forth exchange. Keaton tells Johnny that he threw shoes out the door when he was mad.

The two men talk about former jobs before Hollywood. Johnny was a vacuum cleaner salesman, which shocks Michael, who in turn reveals he had odd jobs too. Keaton was an ice cream truck and cab driver in his youth.

Keaton also reveals that he was the one who would control the switch on the famous trolley on the show ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.’ Johnny is amazed by these revelations and seems to be enjoying the discussion.

Lastly, they talk about how most of their childhood friends were considered funnier than they were and how they were now doctors and lawyers. Keaton shows Johnny a clip of his upcoming gangster comedy film ‘Johnny Dangerously.’ He cites James Cagney as one of his idols growing up. It’s a wonderful interview that reminds us of Michael Keaton’s quick wit and humor.
