‘The Today Show’ reported on the gala event celebrating Carol Burnett’s 90th birthday. Stars from Hollywood and Broadway joined in to honor the beloved comedian and star of ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’
Carol was entertained by some of today’s most famous comedians and comedic actors. They all came to honor her and her influence on their lives. Former First Lady Michelle Obama said that Carol’s show was the best one anyone could watch as a family.
In an interview, Carol says, “Growing up, I didn’t want a birthday party with balloons and confetti and all the cake. I didn’t want that. All I wanted was a show.”
Carol got to choose the particular sketches shown at the event, bringing back memories of the incredible ‘Carol Burnett Show.’ Carol knew the ones that the audience loved the most.
The dentist sketch between Tim Conway and Harvey Korman is a fan favorite. Tim is the dentist, and he keeps accidentally sticking himself with the needles, resulting in his limbs going limp. Harvey can’t keep a straight face as the patient.
Singer Cher came to honor Carol and talked about how Carol helped her laugh through hardship in her life. Carol actually moved from Texas to Hollywood during the Great Depression.
Carol says she has no idea how they made it out of the depression and tears up talking about it. Carol said she still had a great childhood because she knew she was loved. ‘The Today Show’ crew talks about how every comedian references Carol as a significant influence. They celebrate Carol’s inspiration and humor at the star-studded event.
