Armand Foisy and his mother Albina went out for a drive on a rainy British Columbia day. But then it started snowing, turning the landscape into a winter wonderland. Eventually, the snow started coming down really hard and it was time to turn around. “I stopped for just a moment to make sure there’s no traffic coming in the other direction. Mum undoes her seat belt and steps out.” Not bad for a 101 year-old!
Albina just couldn’t resist going out to savor the freshly fallen snow. Perhaps she was determined to rediscover her inner child — or maybe she’d never lost touch with her. As she made a snowball, she repeatedly said, “Oh my, oh my, oh my.” As Armand explained, that’s what she says whenever she’s excited about something. She tossed the snowball off toward the trees with a laugh. The spry centenarian then remarked, “It’s kind of fun to play in the snow… No, no, it’s not cold. But you need gloves, of course.”
Ever since Albinia finally left her own house and moved in with her son and his wife (just the year before), Armand was in the habit of having his phone at the ready so he wouldn’t miss a chance to record his mother’s antics. “When you have a mother that’s 101 years old, it’s a good idea to keep the camera nearby for those special moments. This is one of those.”
Living to 101 is remarkable enough, especially if you’re still sharp as a tack like Albinia. But what’s really nice about this story is that she still had zest for life and an ability to enjoy the simple wonders of a winter day.
