Five years ago, country music legend Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Not long ago, his wife, Kim, revealed that his illness has progressed to the point where Campbell is no longer able to communicate with his family.
Campbell is currently being cared for by the capable people in a Nashville memory care facility. His wife and children visit him frequently, making sure that he has company. His children frequently play guitar for him, and sing, ensuring he is surrounded by music as much as possible.
“He cannot play guitar anymore,” Kim told the Tampa Bay Times. “I don’t even know if he knows what it’s for.”
Despite the progression of the disease, Kim reports that he seems happy and cheerful. The center where he lives is a big proponent of music and art therapy, which surely helps the 80-year-old’s sunny disposition.
One thing he is still aware of, she says, is his faith. The couple’s faith has sustained them both through many hard times, and continues to do so to this day.
