An Unexpected Bond Emerges Between Orangutans and Otters

An orangutan sits on a paved surface surrounded by a group of otters.

Animals have many various ways of interacting with each other. We can mostly see a lot of animal bonding stories on social media and different online platforms.

We can see a dog having a great time with his duck friends, or a horse becoming a foster parent to a young goat, or even a chicken sleeping together with a family of cats.

It was great to see such lovely scenes. However, some unique friendships emerge between a less-expected group of animals. At first, it was impossible to picture them until you see them coexist happily.

In Pairi Daiza Zoo in Wallonia, Belgium, orangutans are having a great time living together with a group of otters. The zoo owner has intentionally designed the habitat so they can coexist.

However, it was not expected that they would form a strong friendship bond as if they were not of different species. I mean, they hang out, play, and share the land with each other.

Even the caretakers were totally shocked by what they witnessed. The zoo owners invest a lot in making their enclosures rich with everything that can help improve the quality of life of every animal they have.

Those strong bonds between a family of gorillas and otters simply teach us that there are more things that we haven't yet to unfold regarding animals or nature in general.
