Pig rescued after ten years of confinement goes out for the first time

A little female pig was locked up within a stall for a period of 10 years, without the ability to see through each day’s sunlight.

Todd, an animal rescuer with Arthur’s Acres Sanctuary, comes to her rescue, offering her compassion, love, and assistance by providing her a home and company after the return.

Having gone through so much isolation and trauma (like not using her breathing for so long and experiencing past severe beatings), the female pig develops an aversion towards humans and association. This is noticeable in how she first withdraws from and declines Arthur’s attempt to help.

To start her healing process and slowly reaffirm her trust towards humans, food, and engaging in outside activities, Todd gives her the name “Princess” as a form of encouragement and love to boost her ability to trust and allow herself to be cared for.

Even though she had temporarily lost her sight as a result of dark confinement, and could only see shadows, she gradually responded to Todd’s care and became more comfortable around him.

To reaffirm her, Todd devoted several hours to be with her every day to show her that humans can be good and that she could trust him slowly. This was done through thoughtful food, fruits and treat giving, and other niceties.

Although with slow progress, Princess gradually warmed up to Todd, his care, and even engaging with other friendly animals and outside activities.

Just like that, Todd helped her regain her ability to see things differently and enjoy comfort once again after a long while.
