No matter how old you are, you have almost certainly seen at least one movie with the incredible Harrison Ford. The famous actor has become one of the most famous faces in the industry through his many leading roles and unforgettable films.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 13, 1942, and was known as quite a shy child. He didn’t realize his love for acting until he took a drama class during his final semester at Ripon College, and from then, he was hooked!
In 1964 he joined a theater group in Wisconsin and then quickly moved to Los Angeles to apply to be a radio broadcaster, a job he had held off and on through college.
He didn’t get the job, which may have been the best thing to ever happen to Ford as he then received a position with Columbia Pictures doing minor roles in various films that ignited his love for acting.
Ford was unfortunately not credited in most of these parts and was deemed by several producers to have no future on the big screen.
To make a living, Harrison Ford became a carpenter, which ironically was the actual catalyst for his future in film. During his time as a carpenter, he worked for several Hollywood writers and was recommended by a client for a role in George Lucas’ film American Graffiti.
He also worked for Francis Ford Coppola, redesigning his office, and their relationship led to his roles in the director’s films The Conversation and Apocolypse Now.
His relationship with these two men changed everything for Ford, and through the late 1970s, he received several vital roles in popular films.
However, his big break happened in 1977 when he landed the role of Han Solo in Lucas’ forever famous series Star Wars.
With the Star Wars franchise’s wild success and subsequent roles in the following few films, Harrison Ford became a household name.
Some film buffs argue that his career became solidified he starred as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Arc in 1981. Like Star Wars, the film was an instant success, and Ford wowed the audience as a hunky archeologist for another three record-breaking movies.
Over the next three decades, Harrison Ford starred in over 60 movies with extreme success. He played dramatic leading and supporting roles that have kept him a famous and widely recognized actor.
Luckily for all Ford fans, he will star in a brand new Indiana Jones film set to be released in 2022!
Harrison Ford is far from the end of his career, and we are so excited to see what he has for us next!
