This Poor Baby Was Rejected By His Herd. But Wait Till You See Who Shows Up Behind The Sand Pit!

Ellie is a rescued baby elephant who found his new home at the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. The poor guy was rejected by his herd. Not only that, but the elephant also suffers from some series health issues, which may have been the reason he was rejected. Unfortunately, the herd will sometimes reject a weak member who could put the herd at risk.

When he was rescued, his rescuers found out that he was intolerant to milk and rescuers feared he wouldn’t survive. Things were not looking so good. Elephants are very social creatures, and they depend on the other members of the herd for many things. But Ellie had no herd and was lonely. But that’s when Duma the German Shepherd entered the scene.

Ellie was given a second chance at life thanks to this incredible dog. “He was particularly weak, particularly ill. He wasn’t showing much interest in doing anything. He was very lethargic, very disinterested,” said Karen Trendler, rehabilitation and crisis response expert. “We introduced Duma and the elephant at the sand pile and it immediately cheered the elephant up. He suddenly started getting a little bit of interest in life again.”

Ellie is now on a road to full recovery! She has a best friend and she doesn’t care that Duma isn’t an elephant. I’ve heard of elephant and dog best friend pairs before, and this one is just as special as the others.
