On ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ Season 8, Episode 6, Vicki Lawrence introduces the skit by saying, “It’s time once again for the eighth annual Carol Burnett Show awards for the most unforgettable television commercials of the year.”
Harvey Korman stands behind a desk in a grocery store in a suit, and Carol walks by shopping. Harvey pulls her aside and asks her which coffee looks the richest out of the three cups on his desk.
She looks very closely for a minute, and Harvey gets concerned, but Carol chooses one, and he asks if she’d like to taste it. She tries it, and Harvey asks, “Now, would you say that coffee tastes as rich as it looks?”
Carol takes another sip, stares blankly at him, and says, “It’s very good.” Harvey asks again because she didn’t answer correctly. She takes another sip and says, “I’d recommend it.” Harvey gets angry and asks again.
He keeps pressing her to say it is as rich as it looks, and she offers to pay because she is scared and runs away screaming! Harvey smiles at the camera and says, “That was another unsolicited testimonial.”
The following commercial shows Carol cleaning the house, and a voiceover mentions how terrible headaches are. Carol grabs her head and starts breaking things in the house while going wild.
A gong hit signals the headache she feels, and she rolls around on the floor as the gong continues. She grabs her purse, pulls out pills, and dumps the whole cup in her mouth as the voiceover says, “You’ll get immediate relief and be yourself again in no time.” She goes back to cleaning, and Harvey walks through the door and accidentally hits Carol in the face, and she goes cross-eyed, and the gong hits again.
