Country music icon, Reba McEntire, was included in the memorial service in Houston, Texas, for former President George H.W. Bush which took place on December 6th.
She sang a powerful rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer” at the memorial funeral service held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. It was reported that her performance brought the late president’s son, George W. Bush, to tears.
On her Facebook page, McEntire wrote: “It was an honor and privilege to sing at President George H.W. Bush’s funeral. He was a great friend and leader and I will never forget the time we shared together.”
The former president was a devoted country music fan and had many friends within the industry. Over a long period of time, Reba McEntire enjoyed a close friendship with Mr. Bush and his wife, Barbara.
The Grammy winner was one of two country music acts asked to perform during the memorial service for Mr. Bush. The group, the Oak Ridge Boys, also long-time friends of the former president, performed the sentimental hymn, “Amazing Grace”.
