A hand gently holds a yellow and orange cockatiel with a red cheek.

Ginger is partially blind and was surrendered by her first family to Donna's friend Kelly. The owner said they never took the bird out of the cage for a couple of years.

It was hard for Donna to believe that she did not bond with her first family as she has such a good heart. She even connected well with Kelly while she was trying to find a foster home for her.

A cockatiel with yellow and white feathers and orange cheek spots is being gently held by a person's hand.

However, Kelly could not really find anyone that would meet her requirements. That is when she asked Donna to consider adopting Ginger. Donna lives in Hawaii with her rescued birds, and she believes it to be their forever home.

She does not plan to release the birds for a lot of different reasons. Donna has also built a room for the birds where they can fly freely. But, unfortunately, the partially blind cockatiel can't land on a perch when she flies and has a beak weakness.

A cockatiel with a yellow crest and orange cheek patch stands near a blue water fountain.

Hence Ginger can't break nuts that the normal cockatiels can do. Ginger is friends with all the rescue birds and Donna's pet dog Samson. Donna also rescues butterflies, and Ginger also became close to one of them named Dot.

Ginger would go to the box where Dot stayed, and they would stare at each other. Ginger had also bonded well with Donna's husband, who was not a bird person. Donna feels that Ginger has brought so much joy to their family and can't imagine her life without her.
