Royal engagement ring has a detail that would have made Diana cry with pride

It’s official! Prince Harry — grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and fifth in line to the British throne — is engaged to American actress Meghan Markle. The two are scheduled to wed in May 2018.

Markle is best known for her role as Rachel Zane in the USA Network legal drama “Suits.” In addition to acting, she founded a fashion magazine and also has her own line of clothing. She’s also been busy doing work for humanitarian causes, notably women’s rights, clean drinking water and stamping out slavery.

Prince Harry designed the engagement ring himself and it was manufactured by Cleave and Company, the official jewelers to the British crown. The ring is actually a beautiful tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana. It has three diamonds, two small ones that belonged to Diana and one large one that came from Botswana. Why Botswana ? Just weeks into their relationship, Harry invited Megan on a trip to the southern African nation. As she said, “I think everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of (Diana’s stones) and, obviously, not being able to meet his mom — it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us. It’s incredibly special to be able to have this, which sort of links where he from and Botswana, which is important to us. It’s perfect.”

Markle’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, wished the pair well: “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.”
