When babies are just learning to crawl and walk, they need extra care and supervision. They need to be left alone to learn their own strength, but also need constant observation and guidance. Well, that’s what these elephant parents and their big hearted herd is doing for this little baby elephant.
It was a normal day for everyone in this elephant herd, when suddenly their littlest member found himself in a rather difficult situation. He took a rather impossible route for himself to get to his herd and it landed him in an awkward position on his back. As soon as he fell flat on the ground spreading legs towards the sky, his mom and a fellow herd member ran to rescue him and got him right side up again on all fours. The elephant’s way of helping their young is one of patience and guidance.
It was not just their rescue that mesmerized me though. They actually took their time to show this little guy another easier root towards their herd. Teaching their young is all part of the elephant’s way of raising them. They work as a team to raise all the young in the herd, not just their own. It is really amazing to see these gentle giants teaching something to a younger member of their herd.
