It’s hard to tell at first glance, but Carol is a vibrant spirit and beautiful soul. She shares in her pre-makeover interview that her childhood was especially tough. She’s been through a lot and forged ahead to be successful in life.
She mentions that her father was a violent alcoholic who would chase Carol and her siblings away with a shotgun. Perhaps the most heart-breaking comment Carol makes regarding her trauma is that she was always hoping someone would ask her if she was ok so that she could tell them she wasn’t.
Carol goes on to explain that she had PTSD from her childhood but didn’t realize at the time what was going on emotionally. Though Carol went on to become highly successful in cell biology at a young age, she never married because of unresolved fears of men and intimacy.
Carol did seek healing and therapy as she forged on with her career and personal life. At age 40, she conceived a son via artificial insemination, and today she speaks of him as her best friend. This mother of one wants her son to know that her life has been fun and meaningful, and she wants this to reflect on the outside as well as the inside.
Christopher gives viewers a window into his precise analytical processes when evaluating a candidate before their makeover. He examines bone and body structure, face shape, posture, and facial features, to name a few.
When the deserving 80-year-old emerges from her time with Christopher, she is glowing. Her hair is cut short and highlighted, her skin is tan, and her makeup is flawless. Carol even appears to stand up straight with greater ease and confidence.
Tears come quickly for Carol, and she is indeed overwhelmed with joy. It’s hard not for us to tear up at the sight of her happiness after all she has experienced. Way to go, Carol, you look stunning!
