Animals have a particular way of reflecting what we see in ourselves. Even more, elephants have been known to exemplify multiple human characteristics, even with a very high intelligence level.

Sadly, elephants are frequently mistreated. This refuge, Wildlife SOS, is a safe haven for rescued elephants recovering from a difficult past to finally enjoy life.

In this heartwarming video, Ginger the elephant takes her first steps at the refuge after living a life full of abuse. You can really tell how free she feels the way she’s walking.

Just frolicking around and eating leaves is one of the first times in Ginger’s life where she truly feels happy and relaxed. Even though she is completely blind, the fresh air and crisp smell guide her along.

The way that Ginger plays around and cheerfully throws dirt on herself shows how happy she is in this moment. Having this sort of freedom is something she’s never experienced before.

It’s tearjerking to witness such a beautiful creature finally getting what shes’ deserved her entire life. It’s absolutely mind-blowing to know that these animals are abused in such a horrible way.

Having these first steps of freedom is groundbreaking for Ginger. Hopefully, after all of these years, she’s able to move forward with the kind of good life that every elephant deserves.
