Singer with Visual Impairment Shines on Stage

Shaka - The Voice

Life is never easy for most of us. So many obstacles stand in the way of achieving our dreams. However, in a recent episode of The Voice, UK, one contestant shows that nothing can stop her from achieving her dream of becoming a singer, not even her visual impairment.

Shaka - The Voice

Shaka is a beautiful 27-year-old lady with a smile that can light a whole room. Shaka did a thrilling performance while singing ‘Good Luck’ by Basement Jaxx. Her onstage presence is superb, and the live audience is thrilled by the brilliant Blind Audition. Only a few seconds into her performance, singer & judge Olly Murs decides to turn the chair and wants Shaka on his team.

However, Shaka states that she had no idea that Murs had turned around because she could not see anything from the stage because of the lights. In an interview with The Voice, UK, Shaka’s dad, Fitzroy, explains that his daughter’s visual impairment condition is known as congenital nystagmus. Due to this condition, the pupil in the eye continuously shakes and is unstable, like the rest of us. However, he knows that his daughter will never let her visual impairment stop her from living her dream.

Shaka - The Voice

Olly Murs brings in the first 3 contestants during “The Callbacks” from his team and has to choose 1 of the 3. One of them will be singing in the semifinals. The 1st contestant is Benjamin Moss, 2nd Andres Cruz, & 3rd is Shaka. She impresses Murs once again while singing ‘Every Little Step’ by Bobby Brown and moves to the semifinals.

During the piano rehearsals for the semifinals, Murs chooses a song, ‘Take My Breath’ by The Weeknd, for her. Shaka was not expecting this song, but she followed her coach’s choice. Murs wanted her to sing a modern piece. Shaka is ready to face the world once again when she appears for the studio rehearsals.

Shaka - The Voice

Murs asks Shaka to be calm and composed during her performance, as he wants her to fully control her voice. Shaka’s incredible performance on ‘Take My Breath’ by The Weeknd impresses the judges and the listeners. Coach will.i.am. tells Shaka, “That was powerful, even the way you were stomping and singing & owning the stage, you gave me a Tina vibe.”

Tom finds Shaka’s performance very natural and something that she would sing. Anne-Marie tells the talented singer she could hear her voice on a voice record at home. Murs states, “That was fantastic.” Murs finally selects David for the finals. However, this is not the end of Shaka’s performance on The Voice, UK, but definitely a beginning of a bright future for the talented singer.
