Singing doctor sends hearts racing on AGT, but now so many hearts are broken

Life can be so cruel sometimes. When Brandon Rogers came to the attention of the world, he was seen as a young doctor and affable young man with his whole life in front of him. As if dedicating his life to help others wasn’t admirable enough, the Maryland native would soon reveal another amazing part of his life on America’s Got Talent.

Unlike the usual hopefuls who pin their dreams of stardom on shows like this, Brandon had forged a successful career as a doctor in West Virginia. While it’s no doubt a stressful job at time, it was one he loved and was very passionate about. Yet music always had a place in his life as he used it deal with the hard times in his working life. When the producers of AGT came across a viral video of Brandon singing a Boyz II Men song, they reached out to invite the young doctor onto the show.

Prior to going on stage, the young man explained the shocking story of how he was inspired to pursue a career in medicine. At the tender age of six years old, he returned from school one day to find his mother lying in a pool of blood. On death’s door, she was rushed to hospital where doctors were able to save her life. “The doctors were like heroes. They saved her life and it made me want to be the doctor that I am today”, said Brandon. Expressing his desire to combine his passions for medicine and music, Brandon readied himself to take the stage for his big opportunity to perform in front of America. It was a dream moment for him.

Five minutes later, the entire arena was on their feet giving a barnstorming ovation for the fabulous performance they had witnessed. Awestruck by his rendition of “Ribbon In The Sky” by Stevie Wonder, the judges struggled to find superlatives for Brandon. Getting the thumbs-up from all four judges, Brandon was elated to breeze through the next round.

Tragically, that was the only time we will see him on stage. Brandon passed away in a car accident soon after, sadly not surviving long enough to watch the televised audition with his family. In the wake of his passing, Brandon’s family reached out to the producers and asked that they show his audition in tribute to this wonderful young man.

We can hope they draw strength from the amazing work he performed as a doctor during his short life and find comfort knowing he fulfilled a dream of performing to the world before going. Watch this incredible young man bring joy to the world right here.
