Clarita is a Magellanic penguin. She is the first momma penguin to birth a chic in the new location where native birds thrive. The baby’s birthday brings hope to the Global Penguin Society, which Pablo is a part of.

With the birth of the first baby penguin, the colony experienced massive growth. The chick brought hope to the territory as it prevented them from abandoning the area. It gave them a purpose for staying put and avoiding aimless migrations. They kept on coming back more and more until the colony went from just six to forty-five, and so on. At the last census, there were almost three thousand pairs.

The colony was founded more than a decade ago. This was after Borboroglu found six pairs living on a messy beach. Usually, the presence of wildlife is supposed to be neat and habitable. But Pablo found them living amidst an unhealthy environment. There were lots of car parts, plastic bottles, fire remnants, and litters all over the place. If no one had found them, it’s almost sure they’d have died of poisoning.

Some places stood out from the rubbish. The clan of penguins still managed to make barbecues with fires. Almost like they were in survival mode. Even the Penguins of Madagascar have it better than they did. This was no place for animals, and definitely not these penguins.

At this point, Pablo and his team decided to adopt and protect the colony. They took them in, provided, cared for them, and gave them a new beginning. We’re pretty sure these penguins are eternally grateful to him. Plus, how would they have known they needed saving.

Pablo, on founding the Global Penguin Society, and it was no easy job. Amidst everything, the sight of the birth of the first baby chick remains fresh in his mind.

In the interview, he says he believes he is blessed to live in such a reality. A colony of penguins is not something that happens every holiday; it comes per century and decades. Pablo never regrets taking the challenge. And witnessing his foundation grow from six to nearly three thousand, he is nothing short of appreciation.
