Bands such as Creedance Clearwater Revival (CCR) have brought joy to our lives for decades. They will continue to do so for centuries to come. “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” is one of their many songs that most of us can relate to in our own specific ways. It does not matter which type of family you grew up in or how you have chosen to live your life. CCR hits on some of the best nerves that we have.
When sitting down with John Fogerty in an interview, the song’s lyrics were discussed in depth. It quickly becomes apparent that his music was based on several aspects of his life, including his son. Like most parents, John’s thoughts whirled around his work and home lives, and since he was creating a new song, all of it rolled into one great song.
If any of you have ever been on the road with a band, either as a performer or guest, you know the hardships that come with it. Most of the time, you are living in a motor home, van, or on a jet flying in between locations. This does not leave a ton of time for family or private matters, especially when you are grouped up with your band members.
Once getting home from a tour, the first thing any of us would want to do is shut out the fast-paced music world by closing the door and locking it. When you live in a home that has a decent-sized back yard the next thing that we would want to do is sit in a place that allows us to see clearly and enjoy the peacefulness of the view. There is absolutely nothing better than finally getting to sit down and relax after being on the go for so long. Except, perhaps, having your family enjoying
it with you.
Creedance Clearwater Revival touches us all in one way or another with “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.” How we relate to it will depend upon how we live our lives and what we choose to do with our spare time. Honestly, if more people took the time to relax, put on some CCR, the world would be a better place.
