Child-rearing is not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of surprises that seem to come out of nowhere. Eight times out of ten, you’ll find yourself in the situation where you get blindsided by the innocent ignorance of a child. I don’t mean that in a negative way. We are all ignorant when we are younger. Ignorance is just a lack of learning or education- you haven’t been given an opportunity to learn it yet. What’s wrong with that? From the first kiss to the birds and the bees, explaining some of the more…friendly sides of interacting with their peers would be enough to put anyone on edge. Sometimes, the timing just isn’t right. It’s important to explain at a reasonable age, let them have a childhood of innocence and joy for as long as you can manage it (within reason).
When it comes to girls, asking boys what they think can get some pretty funny responses. “Icky,” “Ew,” “Gross, momm.” All those tried and true classics. Oh if they only knew the relationships they will have. Yet, Timothy Johnson asks one of his two sons what he thinks about marriage. He scoffs and tells his dad one of the funniest secrets we all already know. His understanding of it is spot on, just not quite at a Casanova level of explaining yet.
“There are girls who use spit when they kiss.” He chews his pizza, his eyebrows raised in confusion and puzzlement. His father asks if he wanted to be a father, have kids. He seems okay with that idea, but when you hear his reasoning, make sure you’re seated. I almost collapsed from how hilarious his face and answers are!
