Australia has one of the most diverse and interesting wildlife in the whole world. It is one of the most important nations on earth for biodiversity. In fact, most of Australia’s wildlife is found nowhere else on the globe and much of it is deadly or highly dangerous to humans. This video shows an amazing as well as scary event from the wild, and somewhat unbelievable. If I hadn’t seen this for myself, I don’t know if I would have believed it.
This incident was captured on camera by author Tiffany Corlis at Lake Moondarra in Queensland, Australia. A giant snake and a crocodile, perhaps not fully grown, meet and what ensues is nothing short of amazing. This snake was hungry and determined, as well as very large, and I don’t think this crocodile expected the battle that was ahead of him.
After a five-hour long battle, the snake thought to be a python, turned out to be victorious. It took this snake five hours, under water, to squeeze the life out of this crocodile. But what happened next is the real story.
In just 15 minutes, this huge python managed to fully consume the alligator that was at least twice as big as the snake. The clip shows the different stages of him eating the croc and how wide he had to open his mouth to get around the middle of the croc. It was like a train wreck. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t.
It also teaches us a lesson that strength doesn’t come from size alone. There is something to be said for sheer determination and persistence.
