Both Makayla Phillips and Devon Alexander hail from Los Angeles, with this wrap-up highlighting the talent of both Californian auditionees. Makayla Phillips opted to sing the Jackson 5’s “Who’ s Loving You” while Devon Alexander went with Sam Smith’s “Not In That Way.”
Both Californians blew the judges away with songs that not only showcased their vocal ability but their distinctive star quality as well. At the end of Devon’s audition, Luke Bryan was left with a big smile on his face in appreciation of the breathing vocals he just belted out. “You got it out.” proclaimed Luke, later adding “You really check a box for me” with which Katy agreed. Miss Phillips had equal success, with both contestants going straight through to Hollywood thanks to resounding ‘Yeses’ all around.
Each of these two talented Californian singers grew up watching American Idol – heck, Makayla even played the Wii game. Here they appear to audition for season eighteen, each keenly prepared as you’ll soon see. Devon Alexander went for “Not In That Way” by Sam Smith, while Makayla Phillips blew the judges away with a soulful cover of “Who’s Loving You ” from the Jackson 5.
