Springfield singer Mosean Wilson auditions for American Idol season eighteen with an original song entitled “Slip Away”: The twenty-four-year-old arrived with his keyboard ready to audition. Lionel Richie was particularly captivated by the soulful singer who was clearly struggling under the pressure of shaky nerves.
Despite any anxiety he may have had, the entire performance showcased a singer packing soul. After his audition Luke Bryan was quick to praise Wilson, saying, “Mosean, you’re what it’s all about, Buddy.” Katy Perry was moved by his incredible voice, even having to wipe a tear from her cheek, while Lionel Richie loved him and every part of his act. There was no doubt that this artist was off Hollywood.
After traveling what he called a rocky road at times, Mosean Wilson has definitely come out stronger. The Springfield native clearly didn’t realize the power and distinctive charm of his own voice. His brilliant original audition song “Slip Away” conveyed deep feeling and a sound that has you hanging on each note – what an unbelievable way to start an American Idol journey.
