Everyone has had a moment where they really, truly, desperately need a back scratch. The moment where we finally feel the tension go and the wave of relaxation hit us is truly wonderful and so incredible. Nothing can compare to this moment of relief and rest.
It turns out that cats often feel the same way when it comes to being pet. For cats, getting their backs scratched just seems like an ordinary day. It’s a wonderful part of their day, but it has come to be an expected part of their days. Imagine just what it must be like now to be a stray cat or dog. Living out in the wild may seem exciting at first, but then one day you wonder if maybe you are missing something. You look through the windows of houses at your domesticated peers. At first, you scoff at them noticing how fat and lazy they look, but then you start to notice a few nice perks. They have food just laid out in bowls for them. Toys are scattered all across the floor, and in the middle of winter, they don’t seem to be cold at all. Above all else, the thing that seems the most interesting to you about these domestic cats is this thing that their owners do where they “pet” them all day and every day.
This all seems very fascinating to you, so you decide to give one of these humans a chance. One day, you slowly and cautiously approach one of these humans you see around the neighborhood. As you walk towards them, you see them leaning down to pet you, and it feels unbelievably good.
That is what happened to this stray neighborhood cat when it wanted to find out what was so good about being a house cat. Being pet by this man just felt so incredible, it couldn’t help but show how happy it was. You just won’t believe the sound this cat made when it opened its mouth to meow.
