The Carol Burnett Show was known for its sketch comedy and had become one of the most popular TV shows in the 60s & 70s. One of the skits recently garnered a lot of attention, featuring Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, & Carol Burnett. The show also had a few other co-stars and child artists.
The skit began with a board of the Tyler orphanage Home. The matron of the orphanage had been busy helping couples adopt kids. One happy married couple had just left the orphanage and the next couple to enter was Harvey Korman & Carol Burnett (portraying Mr. & Mrs. Burr).
The matron asked the couple a few questions and tried to know their preference of what kind of child they were looking for. Finally, the emotional parents shared their views on the boy they wanted as their son.
Hearing this, the matron invited a few young boys. However, the one in the middle of the line was not a boy but a young man, Leon (35-year-old.) The matron told the prospective parents that the boys had been with the orphanage since birth. The surprised look on the faces of the two parents would make anybody laugh as they couldn’t believe that the man was never adopted.
Tim Conway soon began to talk to his prospective parents and joked around with them. However, his behavior was very clingy, and his mannerisms showed desperation. The poor man wanted to be adopted even though he was 35-year-old.
Mr. Burr did not find Leon good enough to be his son. First, however, he knew he had to convince his emotional wife. She thought of the 35-year-old as a rejected orphan needing a family.
However, all his attempts were futile. Mrs. Burr had already decided to adopt him. Later, Leon convinced Mr. Burr in his own way, and the prospective parents chose to adopt Leon. However, the new parents met a few other family members on the adoption day. Their adoptive son already had a wife and two kids who tagged along with their son.
