Tanya Tucker Scored Her First Hit 'Delta Dawn' in 1972 at the Age of 13

On October 10th, 1958, country legend Tanya Tucker was born. Her undeniable star power was shown when she scored her first hit' Delta Dawn,' in 1972 at the age of 13. Since then, Tanya has released many successful albums while winning countless awards.

Tanya is one of the few child performers to hold onto her audience during her career. Her career has spanned decades, and her 2019 album While I'm Livin' won the Grammy Award for Best Country Album.

The hit single 'Bring My Flowers Now' won Tanya a shared songwriting Grammy for Best Country Song. Some of her biggest hits were 'Delta Dawn,' "Love Me Like You Used To,' and 'Romeo.'

'Delta Dawn' was initially recorded by Bette Midler for her debut album, but it is best known as a 1972 Top 10 country hit for Tanya. It also hit number one for Helen Reddy in 1973. The chorus's melody is similar to the Christian hymn 'Amazing Grace.'

'Love Me Like You Used to' was recorded first by Johnny Cash for his 1985 album 'Rainbow.' Tanya recorded her rendition in 1987, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.

'Romeo' was a song written and recorded by the legendary Dolly Parton featuring star-studded guests. The song included Tanya Tucker, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Pam Tillis, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Kathy Mattea.

The song reached number 27 on the Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. The epic collaboration was a hit for everyone involved. Tanya's other big hits were 'What's Your Mama's Name?' 'Blood Red and Goin' Down,' 'Lizzie and the Rainman,' and 'Strong Enough to Bend.'
