Many evenings are mostly for going out and meeting new friends, at least for Aaron Arias, 19 and Jamal Harris, 17, who like to do that from time to time. When do go about their business maybe they try to see if they know anyone from the other vehicles, or why not, maybe even make a new friend that way. One day, they were driving around together when they noticed a pretty blonde girl sitting in the backseat of a car right next to them.
Being young, and hormonal teenagers, the boys saw their chance to try to make contact with her and see where that would take them. After several attempts, they finally got her to look at them, but instead of her just smiling back or something they saw something that they didn’t expect. The girl in the back seat actually look very scared and they could almost swear she was trying to ask for their help. They tried to read her lips and they got to the conclusion that she was trying to say, “help me”.
Following their instinct, they immediately felt something was wrong, so they called the police and started to follow the vehicle with the 911 dispatcher on the phone. At the beginning when they started to report the incident, they got very nervous sensing that the police may not be able to get there on time. “Yes, I’m on the highway. I’m witnessing a robbery. Not a robbery, a kidnapping,” Aaron starts telling the dispatcher. “It’s me and another guy. So, we’re checking out the girl in the backseat because we’re like, ‘OK, she’s kind of attractive’, and then all of a sudden, the guy is turned back, looking at us.”
They give the dispatcher as many details as they can, including the vehicle’s description, license plate and how the alleged kidnapper looks like. All the time that they are talking on the phone, they are trying to stay behind the kidnapper, and for a few minutes, they think the police has finally arrived, but then find out it isn’t the police, which makes them more nervous.
What makes this situation unique is that remember we are only talking about teenagers, while many teenagers would just have reported the incident to the police and then gone home, these two friends go all the way and continue to follow the criminal, also putting their own lives in danger.
They continue to tail the kidnapper and suddenly the police appear to finally arrive, but will the police have made it on time?
