The Temptations Sing Their Version of ‘Earth Angel’. This Timeless Song Gives Me Chills.

Any fan of music from the 1950’s and 1960’s will recognize this song. Fans of a certain movie that I’ll talk about later will also nod their heads when they hear it. When they listen to it, they’ll be transported to a certain time and place in their lives. That’s what music does, doesn’t it? Well, be ready to get the warm fuzzies when you hear this version of the hit song, “Earth Angel”.

The video, which is just a floating picture of the Temptations, is not the focus here. Just listen to the music. It’s got such a sweet melody and it’s certain to have encouraged some hugging and kissing at school dances over the years. Radio stations, particularly oldies stations, keep it on rotation. Why not? It’s a timeless love ballad of a declaration of endless love and devotion, and we need things like that in our lives.

This is not the original version of the song – it was first performed by a doo-wop group called The Penguins. No, they were not hockey fans. It was a success back then and the Temptations were one of many to do their own versions of it. Other artists included New Edition and Joan Baez. The Temptations, who were active during the 1960’s and ‘70s, put their own stamp on the song.

If this song sounds really familiar, it was used in the movie “Back To The Future”. It was the song that played when Michael J Fox’s Marty McFly saw his parents kiss, which ensured that they were going to actually be together and not keep him from being born in the first place. It makes sense if you’ve seen the movie. If you haven’t, GO SEE IT. It’s a classic film. Now I feel old saying that “Back to the Future” is classic.

The Temptations were an amazing group themselves. They did The Penguins right here, didn’t they? Let us know your opinions in the comments section. Also, please “Like” us on Facebook.
