The RC Cola Story, A Sip of Nostalgia

You know what takes me back? Those classic RC Cola commercials. They were pure gold, right? Grab a comfy seat, and let’s take a trip down memory lane together!

We all remember that refreshing taste of RC Cola, don’t we? You may recall that it all started with pharmacist Claude Hatcher in Columbus, Georgia. Hatcher’s little disagreement with Coca-Cola led to the birth of a new cola contender. I bet he never imagined his basement creation would become such a beloved brand!

From Royal Crown Ginger Ale to Cherro Cola, Hatcher’s company went through a long journey. Remember how Coca-Cola sued them over the term “cola”? Ah, the cola wars. Then, the company had to drop the “cola” from Cherro Cola, and we got Knee-High Corporation. But when Hatcher passed away, H.R. Mott took the reins and reintroduced Cherro Cola as Royal Crown, in a nod to the company’s ginger ale roots.

You might recall those ads featuring stars like Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, and Bing Crosby. Talk about a star-studded lineup! And who could forget those blind taste tests against other colas? RC Cola really knew how to make a splash.

The company was always pushing the envelope, from canned soda to 16-ounce bottles, caffeine-free options, and even launching the first diet cola, Diet Rite. Unfortunately, that sweetener controversy really put a damper on things in the ’70s.

But you know what they say, the South never forgets! RC Cola remains a symbol of simpler times, with that moon pie pairing that still warms our hearts. So let’s raise a glass to RC Cola, the underdog we all love to root for.

Now, it’s time to indulge in that sweet nostalgia. Go ahead and check out the video, “Me and my RC Cola – Life in America.” And remember to like and share, because who wouldn’t want to relive these good ol’ days with you?
