There isn’t a song in history that has been covered more than Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound Of Silence.” Whether it’s the haunting melody or the intriguing backstory, this song has made its mark on history and will continue to be played for years to come.
The melody was first written by Paul Simon over several months in the early 1960s. And after Simon & Garfunkel successfully landed a record deal with Columbia Records, they finally had a space to record it and the rest of the songs that would eventually go on their debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.
In more recent times, this classic has been brought back to life by “Touch of Class” musicians Ruhon du Toit and Deon van der Merwe, and the internet can’t get enough; the smoke-filled rendition has garnered the duo over 8 million views.
These two kick this acoustic standard up a notch by adding in flaming guitars and crashing cymbals. Among the many adaptations of this Simon & Garfunkel classic, this has to be our favorite.
