The Slinky, a beloved toy across generations, was born from an unanticipated incident in the 1940s. Naval engineer Richard James witnessed a spring he was working on fall and continue moving. This led to realizing it could become a cherished children's toy.

Chocolate chip cookies, a delightful treat enjoyed by many, resulted from a baking experiment. Ruth Graves Wakefield, owner of Toll House Inn, added chopped Nestle chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt evenly. Instead, she created an enduringly popular snack.

The creation of potato chips is another tale of unforeseen invention. Chef George Crumb, responding to a customer's complaint about thick, soggy potato fries, cut the potatoes into very thin slices, fried them to crisp perfection, and added salt on top. Unbeknownst to him, he created a snack loved globally.

The discovery of X-rays emerged from William Conrad Renkin's work with cathode ray tubes in 1895. While experimenting with tubes in a box, he observed continuous light emission and invisible rays penetrating solid matter. This led to the revolutionary development of X-ray technology.

Wilson Greatbatch's invention of the implantable pacemaker stemmed from a simple flaw in the 1950s. He accidentally used the wrong resistor when working on an animal heartbeat recording device. This error resulted in a device mimicking the human heartbeat rhythm.

Countless inventions have shaped our world, often stemming from unforeseen circumstances. These include the microwave, penicillin, Velcro, and more. Each represents a moment of unexpected discovery, enhancing our lives in various ways.
