Ellie is a rescued baby elephant who found his new home at the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. The poor guy was rejected by his herd. Not only that, but the elephant also suffers from some series health issues. He was intolerant to milk and rescuers feared he wouldn’t survive. Things were not looking so good. But that’s when Duma the German Shepherd entered the scene.
Ellie was given a second chance at life thanks to this incredible dog. “He was particularly weak, particularly ill. He wasn’t showing much interest in doing anything. He was very lethargic, very disinterested,” said Karen Trendler, rehabilitation and crisis response expert. “We introduced Duma and the elephant at the sand pile and it immediately cheered the elephant up… He suddenly started getting a little bit of interest in life again.” Ellie is now on a road to full recovery!
