Ever since humans developed transportation means such as bicycles and cars, we have been having accidents with animals. If you think about it, it’s not weird at all. The more we ‘evolve’ the more we invade the animal’s natural habitats. We fill their lands with oil, we destroy entire forests for the sake of running a road through there like it was nothing.
And it has happened in all the continents. Animals who had not even met a human before having been involved in car accidents without them even imagining what a car was. Surely, we have taken small steps in making things better for them like taking them to places they can be safer, but that is not the same as doing the right thing.
We’ve all heard of deer freezing up when they see headlights. They have no idea what headlights are. They become fascinated by this light that ends up taking their lives before they even know something bad is going to happen. But how can we avoid these accidents? What should I do if I see an animal crossing the street or highway?
If I don’t stop, would it be considered a crime? In some cases, people are as surprised as animals when accidents happen. I’ve been in a couple of accidents in my life and yes, everything happens so fast that you don’t even have time to process all of it when it’s happening. The problem is when you are actually involved but don’t do anything to make it better.
I have been criticized for taking this thing to newer heights. For me, it is a question of showing we are human by being humane. Doing good for animals is the least we could do them. After all, it is us who have invaded their land and caused them to step aside and become forced to live under conditions that don’t dignify them at all.
Fortunately, there are people who are willing to make a difference. The man in the following video did just that. He heard that a deer had had a very bad accident. The poor little animal had gotten hit by a car. People who saw it thought that the animal had died, but when the man got there, he noticed the deer was still alive. The deer was pretty banged up and he thought that she had just given up on life until THIS happened!
