Thousands of bars of hotel soap wasted every day – what this company does with them is amazing

If you’ve ever stayed in a hotel room somewhere around the world, chances are you’ve seen the little bottles of complimentary shampoos, conditioners, and bars of soap they provide in the bathrooms. You might even be one of those people who collect them for use in your own home. Maybe you ‘borrow’ the towel and slipper sets too, but hey – we won’t judge! Any kind of recycling is good!

And that’s exactly what Clean the World is looking to do with all the millions upon millions of bars of soap that are thrown out and wasted in accommodations all over the planet. From huge chains and five-star hotels with thousands of beds to tiny bed & breakfasts or motels, soap is dumped into the garbage on a daily basis – when it could be put to much better use elsewhere.

It could be put to life-saving use. Every year it is estimated that around 9,000 children die globally – and not just in 3rd world countries. This is a problem that impacts all of us – even here in the US. These kids are not dying just dying from tropical or exotic disease – they are dying because of poor hygiene. Children all over the world do not have access to basic cleaning facilities and products that can actually save their lives. And you’ve guessed it – soap is vitally important in the fight against treatable diseases!

Clean the World are based out of Florida, but they have grown to be a global recycling charity, and the largest soap recycler on the planet. But it doesn’t just stop there, as awareness still needs to be raised, and more and more hotels and guest houses need to get on board with the scheme – and it’s a simple and cost-effective scheme at that!

Instead of throwing out unused or half used bars of hotel soap, Clean the World takes them to their facilities to sterilize and recycle every bar. Through simple techniques, they can renew the life of a soap bar, and then use volunteers around the world to redistribute them to those who need them the most. Children in poverty in every country can get access to the tools they need to keep those nasty germs away – and give them a fighting chance at staying alive.
