Tim Allen’s hilarious first appearance on ‘Johnny Carson’

‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’ welcomed comedian, actor, and star of the hit sitcom ‘Home Improvement,’ Tim Allen, for the first time in 1991. Johnny enjoyed having Tim on the show, and the interview was filled with laughs, as usual.

Tim starts his stand-up routine by telling the audience he is from Detroit. He says he is a big car person, and his favorite is “the Sedan Dam DeVille.” Tim talks about how big the car is, comically showing the audience how far you’d have to slide over to reach the radio.

Tim says his nana still drives at 90 years old, and you wouldn’t even be able to see her in the car unless you peeked inside the window because all you’d see from the outside is knuckles on the wheel and a blue head.

After his routine, Johnny and Tim talk about how nervous he was to come on the show because he was so confused. Tim said that the schedule was changed a half-hour before the show started, and he was running around asking questions frantically. He said everyone replied by telling him that he’ll figure it out because he is a professional. Then he looks at Johnny with a confused face, and they both laugh.

They talk more about the struggles of men, and Tim says that his mother said men are only alive for three reasons, “Lawn care, vehicle maintenance, and tools.’ Tim tells Johnny that he loves his tools.

Tim jokes, “I walk into the Sears Craftsman area, and my nipples get rock hard, I swear.” Johnny puts his head down and laughs with the crowd. The two comedians had a great time laughing with each other.

Tim played the character ‘Tim the Toolman Taylor’ on the ABC sitcom ‘Home Improvement’ from 1991 until 1999. He also voiced the classic ‘Toy Story’ character ‘Buzz Lightyear.’ Johnny was so kind and welcoming to Tim, who was obviously a bit nervous.
