Many parents often wonder whether they should have a pet at home, especially if a baby is around. Their main concern is the possibility of their toddlers getting injured by cats’ and dogs’ sharp claws and teeth.
However, it won’t be wrong to say that the kind of relationship children build with their pets indicates how they will treat others when they grow up. It also helps the kids to learn trust, empathy, and compassion from a tender age. This was recently proved by a toddler petting her pet dog in the middle of the night.
The toddler’s family had a Golden Retriever that had recently given birth to 8 cute little puppies. The parents had installed a camera in the mama dog’s room. The camera caught the toddler petting the mama dog out of love and kindness.
The dog was feeding her 8 puppies at the time. The toddler petted the dog as if she was trying to give some courage to the mama dog. The dog also looked up at the toddler lovingly.
The toddler thought of retreating to her own room for a brief moment. However, she returned almost immediately and started petting the dog once again. She also kissed the dog’s forehead. In the meanwhile, a pup had moved away from others.
The toddler petted the pup as well. This also made the mama dog realize that the pup was away from the other puppies. So she gently pushed the pup towards the other puppies with her nose.
The toddler waited patiently while the mama dog aligned her lost pup with the others. Finally, the mama dog allowed the tiny human to venture close to her puppies, proving how much she trusted the toddler.
