He Took His Cat For A Hike Up The Mountain. Wait Until You See The Cat’s Eyes…

Patrick Corr adopted Stevie after seeing a social media post from an animal shelter in Cork, Ireland explaining that the cat needed a patient owner who could provide her the special care she needed. In the years since he adopted her, the hearty calico has taught him some important life lessons. She’s also accompanied him on hikes up mountains, which is especially unusual given that Stevie is blind.

At home, Corr has to make sure that everything is always kept in its normal location lest Stevie get confused. Stevie is extremely curious and likes to explore and she doesn’t let her blindness stop her. She uses her other senses to navigate the world, keeping whiskers near the ground, taking advantage of her acute sense of smell, and doing a special walk so she doesn’t fall off any ledges. To make trips outside possible, he had to harness train the cat, something that required a lot of practice.

Odd though it may sound, Corr took Stevie out for a hike up a mountain. He made a beautiful video of the experience in which he uses the story of the hike to recount the life lessons that he’s learned from his cat. As he said of making the video, “I think Stevie is a truly remarkable cat and I wanted to capture how I truly felt about her and share that with the world in a meaningful way.” We’ve posted the video for you below. You’ll also see how much Stevie enjoys exploring her surroundings, even when they’re unfamiliar.

While he never disliked felines, Corr had never really been a cat person. But he’ll be the first to tell you that his love for Stevie “changed his life forever.” It’s for good reason he thinks the world of her. “She’s always there for me when I need her and she’s ridiculously cute as well.”
