To celebrate the start of the holiday season, the USAF surprised visitors at the Gaylord National Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland with a surprise performance of “Dona Nobis Pacem” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Air Force Christmas MusicBeginning in 2013, the USAF Band started the flash mob tradition to let people know about their holiday concert series. The flash mob event is not publicly announced, so the only way to experience it is by the luck of the draw. Or on this video!

This year the Christmas classics “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Dona Nobis Pacem” are performed by the 150 member honor guard and band from the 11th Operations Group. The US Air Force Band commander, Col. Larry H Lang, manages to choreograph the whole production so it seems spontaneous to everyone in the audience. Of course, it takes months of practice to make it look so easy.

Those who participate in the flash mob tradition have enjoyed watching the evolution over the years. One of the best parts is always watching the reaction of the audience as the flash mob performance unfolds before their eyes.

The gift of music is a wonderful way to bring together family and friends to celebrate this time of year. The season also reminds us that the freedom we enjoy as Americans remains one of our greatest gifts.

You can see the amazing performance fantastic and the audience reaction in this video. This is a fabulous kickoff to the Christmas season.

If you were delighted by the performance of the United States Air Force Band, share their video because others will like it, too.
