Every generation has its form of nostalgia. I grew up in the 1980s and I’m already growling at people that there was a time when MTV meant “MUSIC” Television, not “23 hours of Reality Programming”. Also, cell phones were the size of bricks and were the property of rich dweebs like Zack Morris on “Saved By The Bell”. There are people out there who are even more nostalgic for a time BEFORE the 80s. Like this video about the ‘50s and ‘60s.
We see a collection of images from those two decades. They include fashion, home styles, dining experiences, technology, music and dating. There’s pictures of things like people cramming into a phone booth to see how many could fit in one at a single time. Yes, phone booths are definitely a thing of the past now that even dogs can seemingly get their own cell phones.
It turned out that the 1960’s were very different for a lot of people. The straight-laced people of the ‘50s were replaced with the loud-colored clothe-wearing hippies of the ‘60s. Elvis and Frank saw the Beatles and rock n’ roll take over the charts. But both of these decades are positively quaint compared to the times that we live in now. Even though they weren’t really, they just seemed a little bit more innocent.
The video starts to repeat images close to the six-minute mark, so unless you REALLY like the music and just want to have that play in the background while you do other stuff, turning it off at that point won’t have you missing anything. That’s too bad, since I do like seeing what life was like before I was born in the early 1970’s. I just think that it’s fascinating how different those two decades were in terms of image.
