Vintage McDonald's Halloween 'Boo Buckets' Are Back!

Halloween-themed buckets and toys, including ghosts and pumpkins, are displayed on a table.

Ah, October, when leaves turn a shade of amber, the air begins to feel crisp. Even for those who don't mark our calendars for Halloween the day after the Fourth of July, there's no denying that the spooky season is nearly upon us. Moreover, Halloween seems to grow grander each year, with nostalgia taking center stage.

Many of you might recall the golden days of Halloween, a time filled with blow molds and masks. People today still have a fondness for old-school hair-raising movie collectibles. Wherever you may turn, Halloween and nostalgia seem to go hand in hand. In fact, adventure lover Justin Scarred recently shared a video clip online about what he loves to do around Halloween and why the season makes him nostalgic.

One thing's for sure, the memory of McDonald's Halloween Boo Buckets from the 80s can't be erased. Who can forget these? Some call them Halloween Pales or Pumpkin Pails, but the excitement they brought to kids back then was universal. Introduced in 1986, the Happy Meal was served in these buckets for nearly a year, and the idea was to go trick-or-treating with them.

The initial release featured three designs: McBoo, McPumpkin, and McGoblin. So popular were these buckets that they came back the following year, and then again in 1989 by popular demand, with three completely different designs. It's such a thrill that every girl in 1989 wanted the McWitch.

Back then, a trip to McDonald's was a rare treat, but parents would make an exception during Halloween. Many of us might remember the eagerness, the anticipation of which bucket we would get, and how they were cherished for Halloween and forever.

Perhaps those pumpkin buckets are why so many of us 80s kids associate Halloween and fall with the taste of a McDonald's Happy Meal and chicken nuggets. It was a connection made in our hearts, and it still lingers.

Fast forward to the 1990s, and the Pumpkin buckets underwent another transformation. One of the most favorite changes was the glow-in-the-dark McGhost. However, the sensation didn't end there; McDonald's brought them back last year, creating a fresh buzz.

Further down memory lane, Justin talks about the Halloween McNugget Buddies, a collection that still makes him smile. It's hard to explain the excitement these little McDonald-themed toys brought to kids in the 90s. It was a time when McDonald's was more than just food; it was a lifestyle.
