Therapy animals have been shown time and again to help patients. From severe anxiety to PTSD these animals can provide a loving platform in order to build a person’s mental health around. These unique rehabilitation tools have even helped those recovering from physical injuries.
The not-for-profit organisation Our Better World connects patients and animals together, and has achieved some remarkable results. The story in this video follows one patient with a terminal illness. You can see, even in the face of such a terrible diagnosis, that the dog has brought the patient a lot of joy.
These animals have a special ability to break through the walls a person has constructed and connect with them. They offer a connection to patients that otherwise might never have been made. Even if the results are just a placebo, they are still getting better outcomes than if they did nothing at all.
