It’s been a difficult couple of years for Rory Feek. Wife, Joey, was diagnosed with cervical cancer just two weeks after the birth of their first child, and she passed away just a couple weeks after their daughter’s second birthday.
Rory has chronicled their painful, and at times beautiful, journey through his blog. Joey and Rory were a dynamic country music duo prior to and throughout her battle with cancer, and his blogs only served to deepen their fan’s appreciation of the pair.
It’s not every day that we see a celebrity get as intimate and heartbreakingly open as Rory did in his blog posts. The honesty he allowed out into the world both drew people to him and his wife, and helped many feel as if they were not alone in their own battles, whether with cancer or otherwise.
It seems fitting, then, to take a look back to the beginning of the couple’s move into the spotlight. They gained attention initially as contestants on CMT’s Can You Duet, where they placed third that season.
Though Rory had enjoyed some success as a songwriter for popular country artists such as Blake Shelton and Clay Walker, what he wanted most was to be a singer. In their audition tape for the show, we can see a bright and hopeful Joey and Rory, eager to get the chance to make a mark on the country music world.
