The Carol Burnett Show was known for inviting several guests to the show. For example, one of the special telecasts of the show from New York had David Frost as their guest, with the two opera singers, Eileen Farrell and Marilyn Horne. During that telecast, Frost was chosen to star in the skit “Are British Cars the Best?”
The skit had Carol and Harvey play a very loud American couple who had visited England and wanted to own one of the British cars. David Frost played the genteel British salesman of the Rolls-Royce. The delightful ensemble of cases made the viewers laugh at their performance.
Harvey started his conversation with Frost by stating, “You see, we are from America.” To which the latter responded, “I never would have guessed.” It was such a hilarious way of beginning the conversation with one another. Carol was at her comic best as she tried to understand the salesman’s “nasal” way of talking.
Carol’s interaction with Frost took a hilarious turn when she asked him, “If the car was the one with disappearing headlights.” To which Frost promptly responded, “Depends where you are from.” Carol added, “Right now, I am living in NY.” Frost replied, “They will disappear, alright.”
The conversation was so cryptic yet funny, with Frost unable to hide his frustration about his loud American clients. The poor salesman was concerned about the American clients who could destroy the upholstery and even get a scratch on the car. So he kept on interrupting them while they tested the vehicle.
The Hawaiian T-shirt looked amazing on Harvey Korman. No one knew till that time that David Frost could act. The whole skit was entertaining and funny; the best part was that it could be watched by every family member.
The show’s format was different and had the best star cast. Even the guest performers participated and made sure that there was something new every time the show aired. The chemistry between the co stars had been seen only for a short time.
