Marine Biologist Ocean Ramsey swam with one of the largest great white sharks in the waters of Oahu, Hawaii. “Deep Blue” is what Ramsey’s team calls her, and they were surprised to find her here.
Ramsey does most of her research in Isla Guadalupe, Mexico. That was where she first saw “Deep Blue.” They recognized her from her markings, and they were also delighted to discover that the shark was pregnant.
As a diver and conservationist, Ramsey’s goal is to help educate people about why protecting sharks is vital. She and her team swim with “Deep Blue,” who seems to be curious about them.

Together the divers and the great white shark swim around the open ocean with nothing else in sight. It is as if they were floating in the clear blue skies.
“Deep Blue” remained everyone’s primary focus. The great white shark was twenty feet long and eight feet wide. She was an absolutely magnificent creature.
Ramsey and some of her team members gently touched the shark on her skin and her fins. It was a kind greeting. Two dolphins even showed up and swam alongside the shark.
The team’s theory was that they happened upon a trail that large females use when looking for whales. It was fortunate that “Deep Blue” found them when she did.
