The song has been covered countless times, but Willie’s voice always lends a unique sound to each familiar tune. After Eddie Arnold sang it, Ray Charles took it to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1962.

In the video, Willie walks through his tour trailer, seeing old photos. He’s looking through the cabinets and reminiscing. The footage cuts to him playing his famous guitar ‘Trigger.’ He’s wearing a cowboy hat sitting in a room under a spotlight.

The video includes closeups of ‘Trigger’ with famous names carved in it. The guitar has been with Willie since 1969. It is a ‘Martin’ nylon-string classical guitar that has been modified. ‘Trigger’ was named after Roy Rogers’ horse.

Nelson has said, ‘Roy Rogers had a horse named Trigger. I figured this is my horse!’ Willie has used the guitar so much that he wore a large hole above the bridge. The guitar isn’t meant to be played with a pick since it is a classical instrument. Willie estimates he used it in over 10,000 shows!

Midway through the song, we see him sitting in the trailer’s bedroom adorned with a giant American flag. He takes his hat off and hangs it on his lampshade. Willie combs and braids his hair in the video as well.

There are some lovely harmonies throughout the song and a guitar solo. Near the end, the music drops out, and Willie delivers the last line, ‘No, you don’t know me.’ Willie’s version has heartfelt sentiment and beauty all its own!’
