Woman builds off-grid tiny home cabin of her dreams

Brooke Whipple always loved nature and dreamed of a lifestyle that would immerse her in the outdoors. She decided to make that dream a reality by building a totally off-grid tiny home in Michigan’s upper peninsula.

Brooke had to consider every single aspect of her future cabin, including the location. After deciding she wanted it near the river, she had to clear an area to build it. Major decisions like this required a lot of forethought because Brooke worked on her own.

She took time to ensure the cabin’s base was solid and would last years. Time to ensure everything was square and level made the following steps even more manageable.

Despite being in the middle of the woods, Brooke still made the exterior of the cabin look good. The A-frame even has windows she installed to give the tiny house natural light.

After many weeks of work, Brooke completes the cabin and can finally stay inside of it. She completes the carpentry, wiring, woodworking, and building herself, and the end result is impressive.

She says that building the cabin is the biggest challenge she’s ever taken on but also one of the most gratifying experiences of her life. The result of all her hard work is something that she, her husband, and her dog will have to enjoy for many years.

It is important to note that Brooke did have building experience and had built cabins with her husband, but this was her first solo build. She rose to the challenge and now has her own nature getaway whenever she needs it!
