Woman Repairs Butterfly's Broken Wing With a Feather so He Can Fly

Nemo-Bucky is the name of a butterfly that was given a prosthetic feather so he could fly free. He was found by Dahlia one day, and she saw that his one wing didn’t develop properly.

Dahlia knew she had to do something, so she took him in. She fed him with nectar she made by watering down honey. Each day more of his bad wing broke off.

At a craft store, Dahlia found a pack of feathers that closely matched the size of Nemo-Bucky’s wing. Before attaching it, she added designs to make it look similar to his other wing.

Once she put it on him, it fit perfectly. He could only fly a few feet at a time, and he had to be kept in captivity. Over time he got better and stronger. Dahlia called him the bionic butterfly.

She took him out to the garden, and he sat among the flowers as if he was thanking her. Nemo-Bucky suddenly flew up. He was ready to go, but she wasn’t ready to see him leave.

Dahlia was worried about him, and then one day, she saw a feather she recognized. It was Nemo-Bucky, and he was happy and thriving.

Regarding Nemo-Bucky’s life, Dahlia said, “It might be short and fleeting, but in the grand scheme of things, all of our lives are just a short blip here on earth. What matters are the connections we make and who we help along the way.”
