Mandy Dooley recently rescued an orphaned baby rabbit whose den was destroyed by a cat. The animal was just cowering in a corner. Since he did not have a mom, the rescuer knew she had to act as his parent.
Mandy had rescued rabbits earlier in life. However, she never had one that licked her face as if he was in love with her. Once she got home and settled the bunny, she began to try and get him to eat.
She had to concoct a milk formula that she could feed the baby rabbit with a syringe. Even the bunny figured out that this was where he would get his milk. Mandy started to weigh the baby animal.
He barely weighed enough to even register. However, after being fed with a proper amount of nutritious milk, the bunny doubled in weight every day. The little one was getting bigger and stronger.
Once Mandy and her husband saw that the rabbit was well enough, she made him his little meadow. This was customized specially for him from a child’s play pool. Then, the rescuers began to add minor obstacles.
In his third week of stay with Mandy, the rabbit could really exercise and stretch his big strong legs. Once she got the bunny healthy and bulked up, she fed him greens. Soon, he was jumping very high and running fast.
Mandy knew it was time for the wild bunny to return to his natural habitat. The rescuer’s husband even built a hutch to help the animal graduate from inside the house to the outside world and later released him. The couple left the cage out for him. This gave the bunny an option to live an outdoor life and feel sheltered in his home.
