When two singers perform together, it is called a duet, but when two music legends sing together, it is an event. John Fogerty invites Wynonna Judd on stage to sing with him, and the two perform Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Proud Mary.’
John says to the audience, ‘Well, it’s duet time!’ They cheer, and he invites Wynonna to sing with him, and the two embrace. John is in a blue plaid shirt with a scarf around his neck.
Wynonna joins in on the chorus harmony and then takes over on verse 2. Her iconic red hair stands out against her all-black outfit, and John accompanies her on a beautiful red guitar.
Naomi Judd takes a picture of the two of them before John rips into a sweet guitar solo. The ACM ‘Girls Night Out’ Awards audience is filled with celebrities. They are all standing and clapping along with the performance.
Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, and other huge country stars are singing along and smiling. The light show and backing band are excellent. This is true rock and roll with a bit of country twang.
‘Proud Mary’ was written by Fogerty and released with CCR’s second album ‘Bayou Country’ in 1969. The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the famous cover version by Ike and Tina Turner peaked at number 4 two years later.
The driving blues rhythm and gospel feel make this song a timeless classic. This performance from John and Wynonna gives the song new life and again proves that Fogerty is an American legend.
