Their performance opened with a violin played by a lovely young woman elegantly attired in a flowing costume. Soon a piano accompanied the violin and the inspiring lyrics began, backed by the orchestra.
The five members of Celtic Woman each contributed a solo piece before the entire ensemble joined together to take the haunting song to its thrilling climax.
These ladies form an Irish musical group that was first put together to deliver a mix of traditional and contemporary music with a strong component of Celtic folk music. There have been numerous changes in the line-up since the group’s inception, but they remain hugely popular.
In their video, they deliver a stunning rendition of Irish duo Secret Garden’s hit song, “You Raise Me Up”, made popular by the 2003 recording released by Josh Grogan. Attired in their signature magnificent gowns, the ladies gave a beautiful rendition of the song, outdoors in the grounds of Slane Castle, in County Meath, Ireland.
The lovely colored lights and the backing choir all helped to lend a mystical air to the performance, which was finished with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the sky, signaling a perfect ending to the evening.
The video has taken the internet by storm, having been enjoyed by more than 40 million viewers. Interestingly, Celtic Woman have a huge following in Japan, mainly due to this song providing the intro to a popular television show over there.
